WALESKA, Ga. - Milligan provided the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) its only win in the NAIA Men's Soccer Championship on Thursday.
The Buffaloes registered a 4-2 win over Madonna (Mich.) in the Marion (Ind.) Bracket, while Bryan and Union Commonwealth each suffered first-round defeats.
In the Williamsburg (Ky.) Bracket, Bryan dropped a 5-0 decision to Rio Grande (Ohio). The Lions trailed 1-0 at the half, but the Red Storm reeled off four second-half tallies.
After falling behind early, Isa Bramble pulled Union Commonwealth even in the 30th minute. Keiser (Fla.), though, countered with two goals before the break in grabbing a 3-1 halftime lead in the Mobile (Ala.) Bracket. The Seahawks added three second-half goals for the 6-1 outcome.
Madonna found the back of the net first in the 10th minute, but Milligan came back with two quick tallies of their own. Marco Lattanzi made it 1-1 in the 12th minute, and Kai Slinn put the Buffaloes up 2-1 in the 19th minute.
Early in the second half, Madonna found an equalizer. Yet, Slinn netted his second goal of the match in the 50th minute and Elies Simo added an insurance goal in the 71st minute to seal the 4-2 victory.
Next up for Milligan is No. 7 seed Indiana Wesleyan. Kickoff is slated for 4 pm ET on Saturday.
