Colbert's Record-Setting Day Powers Reinhardt to Football Championship
WALESKA, Ga. - Reinhardt secured the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Football Championship with a 62-21 win over Pikeville on Saturday.
With the win, Reinhardt ended the regular season 6-0 in conference play to lock up the title. The 7-3 Eagles also receive the league's automatic berth to the NAIA Football Championship Series, which kicks off on Saturday, Nov. 22.
Running back Jah Colbert fueled Reinhardt's attack as he set or tied three AAC records while producing the second-most rushing yards in a game. He finished with 186 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries and had one reception for 26 yards and a score. Colbert tied the conference record for most rushing touchdowns (4), while setting the league marks for most total touchdowns in a game (5) and points (30).
Colbert had touchdown runs of 65, 32, 13, and 1 yard.
As a team, Reinhardt rushed for 436 yards on 55 carries. Jamarion Walker nearly ran for 100 yards, finishing with 99 on 8 carries.
Pikeville owned the lead on two occasions and was within a score midway through the third. Ty Perkins caught his third touchdown pass of the day with 8:27 to go in the third, pulling Pikeville within 28-21.
However, Reinhardt exploded for 25 points during the final 6:24 of the third quarter to open up a 52-21 advantage. In the fourth, Colbert scored his fifth touchdown of the day, and Alex Hanson booted a 40-yard field goal to make the final 62-21.
The Reinhardt defense came up with five turnovers, recovering two fumbles and intercepting three passes. Kamari Poindexter returned one interception for a touchdown.
Reinhardt will find out its first-round opponent in the NAIA Football Championship Series on Sunday at 7 pm ET.
