Lohmuller Tabbed as New Montreat Men's Lacrosse Coach
MONTREAT, N.C.— Keith Lohmuller has been selected as the fourth Montreat men's lacrosse coach in program history as he was hired in May. Lohmuller's responsibilities began earlier last month as he prepares to lead the Cavaliers into the 2022 season.
Lohmuller makes his way to Montreat following several successful coaching and career endeavors, most recently as an assistant coach at Queens University of Charlotte. While with the Royals from 2018 through this past season, Queens held a ranking inside the top 20 in NCAA DII all three years. The team also reached the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history in 2019. Lohmuller coached over a dozen All-South Atlantic Conference players, one All-American and one Academic All-American during his time at Queens.
Off the field, the squad that Lohmuller assisted was the recipient of the Queens Royal Service Award for most community service hours by a team at the school. The Royals also recorded a team GPA over a 3.3 each year under Lohmuller's supervision.
Prior to his stint at Queens, Lohmuller assisted at the University of Colorado from 2009-2010. During his time at Colorado, the Buffaloes reached the MCLA National Quarterfinals and beat the University of Michigan, snapping the Wolverines' 49-game win streak in 2010.
Lohmuller worked as the Head Club Coach and Associate Director at Checkmate Lacrosse Club in New York for seven years. Several of his players went on to play at the collegiate level, including current players around the country in contention for national championships.
"My family and I are thrilled for the opportunity to join the Montreat family. I'm humbled and excited by God's perfect timing," Lohmuller said of his hiring. He continued, "One of the most outstanding parts of this experience is how every person I met at Montreat shares the same vision of educating and mentoring in a Christ-centered environment, whether it's on the field of sport or in the classroom. I'm excited to help build on a program with so much potential."
Before his coaching career, Lohmuller played college lacrosse at the US Military Academy at West Point. The Merrick, N.Y. native was also a two-time All-American while playing at Adelphi University, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration management with a concentration in finance. With the Panthers, Lohmuller was a captain of the 1998 NCAA DII National Championship team in addition to his three All-Conference selections.
Along with his coaching and playing experience, Lohmuller served as an infantryman and military police officer in the United States Army. After 12 years in the military, Lohmuller was honorably discharged.
"We had a lot of strong candidates for the position and are excited to have someone with the expertise and level of experience that Keith brings," stated Jose Larios, Vice President of Enrollment Management and Athletics. "I believe that the future is extremely bright for men's lacrosse. We are thrilled with his missional alignment and his desire to grow men of faith," Larios ended.
Lohmuller currently lives in the Charlotte area with his wife, Kristy. They have two grown children, a daughter, Kelsi, and a son, AJ.
