TWU Claims Sixth Consecutive Men's Tennis Tournament Title
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Tennessee Wesleyan won the 2026 Appalachian Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament championship on Tuesday, defeating SCAD Atlanta 4-0 at Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. The No. 1 seed secured its sixth consecutive tournament championship, and Lucas Perez delivered the championship-clinching point.
The final margin reflected Tennessee Wesleyan's control across doubles and the lower singles positions. SCAD Atlanta, the No. 2 seed, opened with a win at No. 1 doubles as Firas Ben Chouikha and Joewyn Pascua beat Tennessee Wesleyan's Lucas Perez and Lucas Grana 6-3. Tennessee Wesleyan answered by taking the other two doubles matches, with Agustin Gaia and Mario Monclus winning 6-3 at No. 2 doubles over Valentino Capararo and Nicolas Fertonani, and David Leon and Serafin Zund posting a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles against Jakub Bojarski and Maximo Nagele.
That gave Tennessee Wesleyan the doubles point and early momentum in the title match. From there, the Bulldogs closed quickly in singles. Asier Pascual earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Nicolas Fertonani at No. 4 singles, and Leon followed with a 6-0, 6-0 result against Maximilian Grenz at No. 5. Those straight-set victories moved Tennessee Wesleyan within one point of the conference title.
Perez finished the job at No. 6 singles. After a tight opening set, he defeated Jakub Bojarski 7-6, 6-4 to provide the fourth and decisive point. The match-clincher matched the tournament summary, which identified Perez as the player who sealed the championship for Tennessee Wesleyan.
Several matches higher in the lineup remained unfinished once the team result was decided. According to the provided match file, singles matches at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 were still in progress or not completed when Tennessee Wesleyan reached four points. The box score showed Tennessee Wesleyan finishing with two doubles wins and three singles wins, while SCAD Atlanta's only completed point came in doubles.
Leon's day stood out in both phases of the match, combining a doubles victory with a 6-0, 6-0 singles win. Pascual also delivered a comfortable straight-set result, while Perez recovered from a doubles loss to help close out the championship in singles. For Tennessee Wesleyan, the outcome added another conference trophy to a run that now stretches to six straight AAC tournament titles.
With the tournament championship win, Tennessee Wesleyan receives an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship Tournament, which is set for May 12-16 in Mobile, Ala.
