Sanders Returns to Point as the Head Women's Lacrosse Coach
WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University has hired a familiar face in Shelby Sanderson, to serve as the head coach for the women's lacrosse team. Sanderson joins the Point athletics staff with prior head coaching experience in the NAIA, previously coaching for Ave Maria University (Fla.) in the 2022 season. She will return to Point in her second stint, where she coached the Skyhawks during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

"Her knowledge of the game, recruiting connections, and love for Jesus Christ were evident throughout the search process. We have no doubt our Women's Lacrosse program will thrive under her leadership!"
Sanderson served as Point's head coach from 2017-19 and was 24-26 and 14-11 in Appalachian Athletic Conference action. In her last season before departing, Sanderson helped lead Point to a 12-6 record, the best record in program history. In the 2019 season, Sanderson coached the AAC Defensive Player of the Year along with three First-Team All-Conference selections. She also led Point to become a top 15 team in the nation.
Before starting her coaching career, Sanderson had a complimentary career as a lacrosse player at Shorter University. She was a Second-Team All-Conference player at the NCAA Division II level. Sanderson was a three-time captain of the program and was also selected as Freshman of the Year following her first season on campus.
Sanderson's historic athletic career extends past the lacrosse field. She graduated from Shorter University with a bachelor's degree in Sports Management and earned her master's degree from Shorter in Business Administration with a focus in Sports Management.
