Montreat Wins First-Ever Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship
BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. - Despite only winning one individual championship, Montreat battled its way to the 2023 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday.
The two-day event was hosted by Montreat in Black Mountain, N.C.
Jenna Mallory scored Montreat's lone individual title as she won the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 11:20.17. However, Montreat had numerous podium finishes as it compiled 155.33 points to win its first-ever women's outdoor championship. Tennessee Wesleyan was a close second with 146 points, while Milligan (131), Truett McConnell (119), and Brenau (102) rounded out the top five. Making up the rest of the field were Columbia (100.83), Columbia International (83), Reinhardt (29.83), Point (9), Union (7), and Bryan (1).
Earning the individual top honors were Paige Manney of Tennessee Wesleyan as the Field Athlete of the Year, Myesha Hall of Truett McConnell as the Track Athlete of the Year, Ellen Mary Kearney of Milligan as the Freshman of the Year, and Jaeva Ridley of Brenau as the Newcomer of the Year. The Montreat coaching staff was named the Staff of the Year.
There were four meet records set. They were:
- Long Jump – Myesha Hall, Truett McConnell – 6.14m
- 4x800 Relay – Milligan (Rebecca Glover, Caitlin Dominy, Gracie Allen, Ellen Mary Kearney) – 9:20.43
- Triple Jump – Paige Manney, Tennessee Wesleyan – 12.23m
- 5000 Race Walk – Izabelle Trefts, Columbia – 24:47.96
